Allen Elbert Broyles


Allen Elbert Broyles, 87, Blue Mound, died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2008, in his rural home. A native of Missouri, he and his wife, Wilma Ferrel Hull Broyles, had made their home on their farm near Blue Mound for the past 61 years. He was a lifelong farmer and stockman and an active member of his community. Immediate survivors include his wife of the home and four children, Dwayne Broyles and Terry Broyles, both of Blue Mound, Beverly Harvey of Texas and Barbi Savage of Fort Scott. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today in the United Methodist Church in Blue Mound. Burial will be in Sunny Slope Cemetery in Blue Mound. Memorials are to the church in care of Coffel-Schneider Funeral Home, P.O. Box J, Mound City, KS 66056.

Phoenix D. Newlan, 20-day-old son of Jenifer Wadkins and Kevin Newlan of Kansas City, Kan., formerly of Paola, died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2008, at the University of Kansas Medical Center. He is survived by sisters Amber and Haley Dickey of Richmond; brother, Talon Newlan of Olathe; grandparents Rosetta Croan of Topeka, Kenneth Croan of Centerville, Johnie Newlan of Illinois, Debra and Clay Kemmerly of Lawrence and William Gooding of Williamsburg, Kan. A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. today at Penwell-Gabel Paola Chapel, 305 N. Pearl, Paola, KS 66071, 294-2372.
