The future of fireworks inside Spring Hill city limits was the topic of discussion at last Thursday’s city council meeting. The council asked for information regarding the use of fireworks that will be discussed in a future meeting.

In other business:

The council approved a site plan for a third swimming pool at The Estates of Wolf Creek subdivision. The pool will be located at 18301 W. 193rd St. Requirements of the facility state that there will be no outside trash storage and no exterior lighting for the parking area other than ordinary street lighting. Limited lighting will be provided for the pool area with lights mounted on the walls of the buildings to prevent glare or intrusion onto surrounding properties.

The council approved an off-premise billboard sign to be located on the east side of U.S. Highway 169 approximately 1,100 feet north of 191st Street. The billboard will be an illuminated, V-shaped sign, totaling 30 feet in height. Conditions state the sign must be kept in good repair, is subject to renewal in five years, and the lights should be shielded to prevent glare to motorists.

A motion was approved to adopt the 2008 Comprehensive Plan based on the anticipated impact of the BNSF Intermodal project in Gardner with respect to industrial and commercial growth in Spring Hill. The update identifies five areas in and around Spring Hill that are possible locations for industrial and commercial growth.

The council approved the second supplemental agreement for the Oak Woods Subdivision. Staff at Oak Woods has determined it is in the best interest of the public to acquire offsite storm water easements relating to an existing pond, located adjacent to the northwest portion of the subdivision. This will provide the ability to make improvements to the pond in the form of storm water swales and an emergency spillway.

The council approved a resolution regarding depository services of First Option Bank. The resolution is necessary for Spring Hill to establish the personnel that can sign on behalf of the city relating to bank transactions.
