Recycle and reinvent. That is the main idea and motivation behind Liberty resident Carrie Lonsdale’s business that she opened at 950 S. Kent St. in June.

Urban Resell is what she decided to call this new Liberty find.

“I’m a retail consignment store. I actively try to have a variety of things here,” Lonsdale said. “There are one-of-a-kind things here that you can’t find anywhere else.”

Lonsdale specializes in selling new and used clothing, accessories, bedding, small appliances, furniture, toys, movies and games, among many other things that she finds able to be sold. She said she puts 10 new items out every day so there is always something new.

Lonsdale has a variety of vintage pieces of clothing, accessories and furniture available for purchase. She also sells many items on consignment.

She said she separates herself from many thrift stores in that she goes out and actively searches for items to sell rather than rely solely on donations to fill her 3,000-plus-square-foot space. She collected items for nearly a year before opening Urban Resell.

“It offers an opportunity for me to find great things to put in my store,” Lonsdale said.

Lonsdale goes to garage sales, estate sales or simply finds items that homeowners have placed on the curb as garbage. She said many items that she rescues from the trash still have potential to be useful and are often great finds.

She uses creativity to reinvent discarded pieces of furniture, create her own crafts and make items in her store marketable.

“I’m all about marketing,” she said. “Many people don’t know how to advertise but it just takes some creativity. That’s kind of my edge, creativity.”

Lonsdale does not spend a lot of money on advertising. She relies mainly on networking and word of mouth to get customers into her store.

She also said she focuses on the way she treats customers. “My main thing is customer service,” she said. “I just love people. I take personal interest; I want to have returners to sell to.”

Customers can also call and ask if she has specific items, and she said she is willing to take photographs of items to send to customers so they can see them before they arrive.

Urban Resell is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.
