Pembroke Hill 2006 graduate Michael Ferguson is one of the top college soccer players in the United States.

The Loyola University Chicago junior has been chosen to the Missouri Athletic Club’s 2008 Hermann Trophy Watch List. The list is compiled by the NCAA Division I head coaches who are currently members of the National Soccer Coaches of America (NSCAA).

In 2007, the NSCAA selected Ferguson as a third-team All-American and first-team All-Great Lakes Region.

He is the first Loyola player ever named to the Hermann Trophy Watch List.

“I am honored to have been named to the Herman Award Watch List,” Ferguson said. “I feel an added pressure to perform, but with that comes the motivation to achieve more. I look forward to this upcoming season and can only wait and see if I am as successful as last year.”

Ferguson ranked second in goals scored among NCAA Division I players in 2007. He led his team in goals (15), points (32), shots (52) and game-winning goals (seven). He helped lead the Ramblers to their first-ever outright Horizon League regular-season title.

“He is a special player in that he can beat an opponent several ways,” Ramblers coach Brendan Eitz said, “He is one of our three team captains this year because of his ability to lead by example in training and in games.”

The Overland Park resident had a great career for the Raiders of Pembroke Hill.

He was a four-year starter, earning Class 1 Player of the Year honors in 2005. The Raiders topped Whitfield 1-0 for the state title and Ferguson scored the match’s only goal.

The Raiders finished second at state in 2004 and 2002.

Ferguson was a three-time all-state selection and two-year team captain for the Raiders. He earned a spot on the NSCAA All-Midwest Region team and finished his high school career with 108 goals.

Outside of school, he played club soccer for the Kansas City Legends.

In his first year playing with the Ramblers, he finished second on the team with five goals, third in points with 11 and made the All-Horizon League Newcomer Team.
