BLUES, BBQ FOR SHERWOOD

BB’s Lawnside Bar-B-Q, 1205 E. 85th St., partners with Sherwood Center for the 18th annual Blues & Bar B-Q Benefit this Friday and Saturday.

Barbecue will be served and local blues bands will perform both days.

Sherwood Center helps youth and adults with autism and related disabilities.

The Friday night lineup is: Shinetop Jr., 6 p.m.; Blue Orleans, 7 p.m.; Frank Ace Blues Band, 8:30 p.m.; and Platinum Express, 10 p.m.

Saturday’s entertainment lineup is: McNally/Recob, 3 p.m.; Bobby Smith, 4:15 p.m.; Frank Plas and The Silvertones, 5:30 p.m.; Levee Town, 6:45 p.m.; Fast Johnny, 8 p.m.; Four Fried Chickens and a Coke, 9:15 p.m.; and John Paul’s Flying Circus, 10:30 p.m.

Tickets are available at the gate or by calling Sherwood Center at 363-4606. Children under 12 are free.

SOUTH KC POLITICAL EVENT

Local, state and national political figures are holding the South Kansas City United Political Event from 1 to 4 p.m. Sept. 20 at Benjamin Ranch Stables, 6401 E. 87th St.

The family-friendly event is open to the public and will include free food and drink, music and speeches from local political figures.

Missouri Rep. Jason Holsman, 45th District, is the featured organizer. A speaker schedule will become available in the next couple weeks.

TOUR OF MISSOURI ON PLAZA

The second annual Tour of Missouri will come through Kansas City on Monday, with events from 12 to 7 p.m.

Events will take place at the Country Club Plaza, with the riders expected to finish the tour’s first stage around 3:30 p.m. The riders will leave from St. Joseph, Mo. at 12:30 p.m. The day’s awards ceremony will be held around 5 p.m.

From 12 to 6 p.m. a health and wellness expo will be held, including food, beverage, live music, exhibitors, vendors, children’s activities, bike demonstrations and free bike parking.

A post-race party will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m., with a concert by The Leo Project.

DOCUMENTARY FILMS ON TAP

 Oxfam Action Corps is hosting a Free Night at the Movies at 7 p.m. Thursday at Glenwood Arts Theater, 9575 Metcalf, Overland Park.

The films “Sisters on the Planet” and Darfur Now” will be shown. “Sisters on the Planet” is a short documentary about women in different countries determined to stop climate change. “Darfur Now” is a call-to-action film to help end the crisis in the African nation.
