OP student wins scholarship
Claire Diebel, Overland Park, has been awarded one of 20 $5,000 scholarships from the International Premium Cigar and Pipe Retailers Association.
Candidates must have maintained a 2.5 GPA through high school.
This year, applicants had to imagine they were running for public office against an opponent who favors a smoking ban in public places and increased tobacco product taxes, and then had to write a 500- to 600-word essay supporting their position.
Diebel’s Sportsmen’s Gallery, Kansas City, Mo., sponsored Diebel, who plans to use the scholarship to help fund her education at the University or Kansas.
