The third traveling exhibit at the Jesse James Farm, just outside of Kearney, opened Monday.

“Hungry Planet: What the World Eats,” is a photo essay that documents families from several countries, according to a press release.

Beth Beckett, Jesse James Farm Historical Site director, said the farm started bringing in traveling exhibits in hopes of bringing more people to the museum. She said she wants to bring people to the farm for the first time and incite past visitors to return.

The photo essay shows what people as global citizens share.

“It’s very interesting,” Beckett said.

She added that it is timely given the current economy.

Visitors to the farm will experience the exhibit through eyes of photojournalist Peter Menzel and writer Faith D’Aluisio, who investigated food and eating habits around the world, documenting their exploration of comparative world nutrition, the press release stated. For their study, Menzel and D’Aluisio spent time with typical families in each country they visited, discussing their eating habits, calculating a week’s worth of food purchases, and accompanying families to the marketplace to document local customs and traditions, according to ExhibitsUSA.

“It’s kind of comparing what people all across the world eat with what you eat,” Beckett said.

The exhibit runs through Oct. 5.

The museum is open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily; admission for adults is $7.50, $6.50 for seniors (62 and older), and $4 for children 8 to 15 years old. For more information about the exhibit, the museum or to book a group tour, call 628-6065.
