‘Miles for Medals’ motors toward OP

The Miles for Medals Dice Run Kansas City is open to motorcycling enthusiasts and convenes Saturday, Aug. 16. The event begins at Gail’s Harley-Davidson in Grandview, Mo., and winds its way to a finish at Fuel, located near 119th and Metcalf in Overland Park.

Registration begins at 8 a.m. until 8:30. The bikes will ride out at 9 a.m.

A joint event with Special Olympics Kansas, the event benefits some 3,200 local Special Olympic athletes.

Pre-registration participants receive a t-shirt, lunch and raffle prizes. There will be a prize for high roll, low roll and the top fund raiser.

Race for the Cure makes return Aug. 10

The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure returns to Union Station Sunday, Aug. 20.

Race Day registration begins at 6 a.m. The warmup follows at 7.

The competitive five-kilometer race convenes at 7:30, with the non-competitive 5K run and one-mile fun walk events set for 7:45.

Survivor recognition and the day’s awards ceremony commences at 9, followed by the survivor parade and photo at 9:15.

The event will occur rain or shine but could be cancelled in an extreme circumstance. In that event, there will be no refunds. Rather, entry fees would be used as a donation to the Komen Kansas City Race for the Cure.
