Albert W. “Bill” English, 84, Spring Hill, died July 9, 2008, at St. Joseph Health Center, Kansas City, Mo.

He was born April 24, 1924, in Roanoke, Va., to Winston and Clara Wray English. He graduated from Roanoke College, Salem, Va., with a bachelor of arts degree in physics and math. He served in the Navy during World War II.

He married Frances Ashworth in Roanoke. They lived in Virginia, New Jersey, and Utah and settled in Kansas in 1976, all while he was an employee of Hercules, Inc. He retired in the 1990s.

He attended Emmanual Baptist Church in Overland Park, and he was an avid reader.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Moses.

Survivors include his wife, Frances, of the home; daughter Tina Diane English of Pleasanton, and two adopted grandchildren.

Services were Saturday in Gardner, and services and burial were scheduled in Roanoke, Va.
