Man charged with molesting teenage boys

A Smithville man was charged with two counts of first-degree statutory sodomy, a felony, by Clay County authorities.

David E. Allnutt, 36, was arrested and charged Feb. 22 after a lengthy investigation by the Smithville Police Department.

According to a probable cause statement, a police officer went to Allnutt’s home after Allnutt requested that a woman and her son leave the premises. The woman agreed but told police that Allnutt had been molesting children at the house, located in the Stonebridge subdivision.

The probable cause statement alleges that Allnutt inappropriately touched and played “games” with three young teen boys at his home on Jan. 18, after serving them alcohol.

The statement said Allnutt originally denied all of the allegations under questioning, however, once taking a Computerized Voice Stress Analysis, otherwise known as a lie-detector test, he admitted to serving the children alcohol, playing an inappropriate game with the boys, some touching and exposing himself to them.

Allnutt is being held at the Clay County Detention Center.

Police said the three boys were not related to Allnutt.

Police Chief Ken Wilson said he was proud of the work by officers to get a warrant from the Clay County prosecutor.

“This is very good work,” he said. “This is a terrible crime, and our officers worked tirelessly to make sure Allnutt is off the streets.”

Jerry Johnson, department detective, said he hoped Allnutt was prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

“For the sake of the victims and their families, I hope that he does get put away,” Johnson said. “This was a tough case on a lot of people.”

Johnson said parents should be aware that predators could be lurking around every corner.

“You really need to double check on your kids and make sure they are where they say they are and know who they are with,” he said. “These people can be anywhere, and you can’t be too careful.”
